St. Davids asks conferees to rate different aspects of the conference on a scale of 1 to 5--with 5 being excellent. In 2007, all but one of the eight continuing workshops received an average rating of 4.5 or higher--with four of them receiving a 5--or higher! Comments from the 2007 evaluation sheets: "My experience was not only educational but also transforming. The excellence of the entire conference allowed God to move with liberty, free of distraction or hindrance." "What a blessing this past week has been! Thanks to you and the board for all of the . . .work you did to pull this off so wonderfully!" "The best staff possible!" "As a first-time St. Davids conferee, I appreciated the warmth of those attending and the sincerity of those leading." "The high caliber of writers and teachers really gave me something to aspire to." "Teaching and fellowship A+" Comments from Previous Years: "The support and help were priceless." "You people are the best!" "The conference. . .offered me, a newbie, many opportunities for learning the craft in a very welcoming environment." "I liked that it was a working conference." "I appreciated the tone of this conference compared to other Christian writers' conferences I've attended. There didn't seem to be the need to sermonize." "I really didn't see any conference weaknesses." "It feels like family--caring, nurturing, but still realistic about the tough parts of writng." "The best part of the conference was the affirmation I received from critiques and workshops...I now feel more confident that I have the potential to become a good writer." "The most valuable part of the conference for me has been the encouragement I have received. In my entire life--I am 70--I have never been around such encouraging people." "The St Davids spirit was once again excellent. Faculty top notch. Well done!" "This was the best conference in recent years. Outstanding teachers. High morale." "The greatest strength is the Holy Spirit whose presence permeated eveything from registration, to meal times, to sharing on the way to classes. Jesus was real here, not in name only. I felt loved." "I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I felt like I was part of a family reunion and that I was a welcomed member, even though I had attended St. Davids only once before about 20 years ago." "The conference was both fun and informative. It was a 'stretching' exercise for me because of all the in-class writing exercises and homework assignments. . .I learned a lot that I have already begun applying to my writing." "I think your conference works especially well because of the smaller size. I had a chance to meet most of the people during the week." "I had lunch with a literary agent. . .and she was very helpful and open. To a beginner it can be intimidating to approach an expert. It was easy to do at St. Davids." "I think you do an excellent job. . .It's obvious the Lord is working. . .and everyone here takes writing seriously. I am so inspired and motivated to return with more (and improved) writing, and feel progress in my relationship with the Lord." "The most valuable part of the conference for me was Holly Miller's keynote address. It set the tone from the start. . .Holly was inspiring, funny, caring, and insightful. She made failure not only acceptable but also desirable. Even now, when I am feeling unsure about my writing, I keep going back to Holly's words about taking that risk--about growing and becoming the writer God created." "St. Davids balm to heal my wounded, broken spirit." "You each know how to bless struggling writers."
"Best St. Davids' Conference I have ever attended. The Thursday night program was especially enjoyable and I slept better that night than I had in a long time. Laughter is appreciated!" "I haven't laughed so much in years!" "Thank you for all of your hard work! The conference was wonderfully helpful to me. . ."
